Air Fryer Chicken Wings Recipe
If you’re trying to air fry chicken wings, you’re far more likely to cook chicken in an appliance. The center is densely baked and tender and juicy, but the unwilling spread of hot air makes it a lot easier to cook than a traditional oven. We have achieved a crispy grilled skin that is difficult to achieve.
The fried chicken wings take only 16 minutes to cook, three times quickly than his in the oven. Air fryers don’t need to be preheated, so this is the easiest way to make crispy chicken wings.
How long should I cook my wings in the air fryer?
Our wings took about thirty minutes to cook altogether. Our air fryer was preheated to 380 degrees, and we fried the wings for a total of 12 minutes before flipping them over and heating them for a further 12 minutes. For the last 5 minutes of cooking, we raise the heat to 400°, resulting in deliciously crisp wings. Advice: You can quadruple this recipe, but be sure to cook the wings in the air fryer in a single layer (this may require cooking in batches). Nobody likes wings that aren’t as crisp or uniformly cooked, which is why you shouldn’t overcrowd your basket.
Level: Easy
Total: 40 min
Active: 20 min
Yield: 2 to 4 servings
Ingredients
- 2 pounds chicken wings, split at the joint and tips removed
- Kosher salt
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup hot sauce, such as Frank’s Red-hot
- Ranch or blue cheese dressing, for serving
Special equipment: a 3.5-quart air fryer

- After thoroughly drying the chicken wings, liberally salt them. The drumettes should be lined up along the sides of the baskets of a 3.5-quart air-frying device if necessary to fit the wings without them touching. After cooking the wings for 12 minutes at 360 degrees Fahrenheit, flip them over with tongs and continue cooking for another 12 minutes. The wings should cook for a further 6 minutes after being turned over, with the heat increased to 390 degrees F.
- Melt the butter in the microwave for about a minute in a bowl that is microwave-safe. Add the hot sauce by whisking.
- In a big dish, cover the chicken wings in the butter mixture and serve with dipping sauces and dressing on the side.
Dipping Sauce
Even while store-bought ranch dressing is fantastic, we would be negligent if we didn’t advise you to try creating your own. These wings are well complemented by the buttermilk’s refreshing acidity and the abundance of fresh herbs. Not a fan of Ranch? The addition of blue cheese is usually fantastic.
What goes best with chicken wings?
Choose from a range of game-day munchies to go with these wings, such as our stacked potato skins, fiery chicken taquitos, or air-fried sweet potato fries.
Tips for crispy air fryer wings
Before seasoning, blot your chicken dry using tissue paper for the crispiest wings possible. Better still, chill the wings uncovered in the fridge for a couple of hours before seasoning. Our second piece of advice for extra crispiness? Your fryer’s temperature and cooking time are crucial.
Note: Adding a little baking soda to the mixture can help the air fryer produce crispy wings. The key to having skin that is crispy is baking powder.
