I hesitate to call this a recipe. I feel this way generally about “recipes” that essentially say, “Blend stuff together then drink it.” But, I’m going to share it anyway, because it’s delicious. And easy as pie! But better for you!
I typically make this smoothie at that awkward time on Saturday when I realize that I’m hungry but it’s too late for real breakfast and too early to want lunch – that time when you know if you eat something now, you’re not going to need lunch but will definitely be hangry at that also awkward time that is far too late for lunch but also too early for dinner. So then what? Do you just go ahead and eat dinner, even though it’s so obviously too early for that, and if you do, you’re going to be friggin’ hungry at bedtime and/or drink a couple of glasses of wine and get sleepy at like 8 PM?

Clearly, Saturdays are weird food days for me. I think it’s because I usually sleep in a bit and then when I get up, I am thrown off by the fact that my weekday granola is sitting at work but pancakes/waffles are reserved for Sundays, so I have no idea what to do. Man, it’s rough. Luckily, this smoothie curbs the confusion and hunger just perfectly. It keeps me full a good portion of the day, is chockfull of good stuff, and is super tasty.

The banana, cashew milk, lucuma, and maca give this smoothie a delightful milkshakeyness (that’s a technical term). Feel free to use whatever milk you like though. Cocoa powder can be substituted for the raw cacao powder, and if you don’t have lucuma and/or maca powder, you can leave them out. Just keep in mind that the flavor will be slightly different, although still delicious.
